#124 – Darling, You’re Different
On inspiration and sharing your stories
*Before we dive in, I have a share at the end for any folks looking to evolve or grow in their careers this year through career storytelling. So read to the end!*
I want to talk to you a bit about inspiration. The magic that is the creative spark. As you know, I don’t like to talk about creativity. It is an ephemeral, beautiful thing, but it is also hard to define. Hard to capture, hold onto and put definitive words against—at least I think it is. Because for everyone it’s different.
But inspiration? That’s a whole other thing. Especially in the context of storytelling. Inspiration is everywhere, if you let it be. If you open up to it. If you stay curious and ask questions of yourself and your fellow humans.
When it comes to storytelling, especially career and personal storytelling (and even business storytelling) you need not look any further than the nearest mirror for inspiration. That’s right. Your stories live within you. Because you, your experiences, your offering, your expertise, are one in a billion (7.888 billion at last count actually). There’s no one else like you, no one who has seen what you have seen in the ways you have seen it. Learned what you have learned in the ways you’ve learned it. And no one who has lived your life the way you have lived it. Which means only you can share what you know in your unique way.
I came across this image while working on a deck (storytelling presentation) for a client and immediately thought—that’s the root of storytelling. Darling, YOU are different.
I want you to remember that as you move more deeply into 2023 and think about how you want to engage with this big beautiful world and how you want to share your stories. Mine your experiences, think about what you’ve learned from them and what of them you want to share because that is where inspiration begins—in you and around you.
If you’re thinking about what you want your life, and specifically your career, to look like this year, if you’re seeking inspiration or needing help turning inside and mining your story I have a couple of exciting things coming up I’ll be sharing with you in the next few weeks.
The first is a career storytelling webinar. I’ve decided to open up my client career storytelling workshop to more people through this. So, if you’ve been trying to work out your next step or struggling to make a leap, especially if you’re stuck in the job application/rejection cycle, I’d love for you to join. I’m going to take the career storytelling knowledge I have and have used to build my own career and those of people in organizations I’ve work with and share it. Because I have seen how hard it can be to for some folks to find their footing and communicate their magic in a way that inspires people to see them and hire them.
I made this for you if you’re struggling to shape and communicate your unique career path. If you can land the interview, but is not aren’t hired. One of my goals business for 2023 is to help impact as many people as possible by sharing my knowledge and skills. So if you want to make career change but doesn’t know where to start. Or feel disrespected or unchallenged at work and want to make a change but don’t know how. I want to help you do that. If you are happy in your career and thriving, but know someone who isn’t, I’d love for you to share this opportunity with them.
There is a small cost ($25), but I promise it’ll be more than worth the investment.
Or you can sign up directly here. I hope you’ll join.
A Story Well Told
Janelle Monae shared a post on instagram at the beginning of the year that I plan to carry with me as I move through the rest of my life. I think it’s something that will resonate with many of you as well. It feels like a gentle invitation and push to grow 💖
